Chiddingstone Castle

Castles in Kent

Kent is home to some very famous castles including, Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst Castle, Hever Castle and Leeds Castle, but there are other lessor known Kent castles which offer a lovely day out including Chiddingstone Castle which is half an hour from the Spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. The Castle is home to the fascinating collections of the gifted antiquary Denys Bower.

Parts of the castle, which sit in 35 acres of beautiful grounds, date back to 1550.  There are amazing views of the countryside and visitors can explore a lake, rose garden, woodland and the award winning orangery.

The grounds also lead into the historic medieval town of Chiddingstone.

Revived from dereliction in 1955 by the gifted antiquary Denys Bower, the Castle became a home for his amazing and varied collections. Denys amassed a stunning array of Japanese armour, swords and lacquer as well as Egyptian antiquities, beautiful Buddhist artefacts, Jacobean manuscripts and Stuart paintings, which are on display for visitors to enjoy.
