FINCHCOCKS

Finchcocks is a Grade 1 early 18th century manor set in a beautiful garden with extensive views of the surrounding parkland and hop-gardens.

The house is named after the family who lived in an earlier house in the 13th century. The present house was built in 1725 by the barrister Edward Bathurst, cousin of Earl Bathurst. It has a front elevation in fine local brick which is attributed to the baroque architect, Thomas Archer. It has change hands frequently over the years: past owners include the picture collector, F. Lycett Green and the Legat Ballet School. It is now the home of Richard Burnett’s celebrated collection of period keyboards dating between 1660 –1875  which includes harpsichords, chamber organs and mechanical instruments as well as a wide range of pianos.

Today Finchcocks is a music centre of international repute, and many events take place there. The garden is now fully restored and a special feature is the Walled Garden.
